Culturally-Based Greek Letter Organizations (CBGLOs) provide students from all walks of life with an opportunity for growth and development within a model of cultural identity. These organizations were founded during a time when minority college students had less access to but deserved the same benefits of Fraternity and Sorority Life. As Fraternity and Sorority Life became more inclusive, these organizations continued to provide high-quality leadership experiences to their members and the communities they serve. Today, members of CBGLOs are top leaders in all walks of life.
At Lindenwood University, there are multiple ways to affiliate with a CBGLO. We are proud of our history with these fraternities and sororities and look forward to helping you find your home in one of the below organizations. National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC)
NPHC is the umbrella organization of the nine historically, but not exclusively, African-American fraternities and sororities. Collectively, these organizations are referred to as the “Divine Nine”. Founded nationally in 1930, the mission and purpose of NPCH is: “Unanimity of thought and action as far as possible in the conduct of Greek-letter collegiate fraternities and sororities, and to consider problems of mutual interest to its member organizations”
At Lindenwood University, we work closely with the local chapters (known as City-wide Chapters) to provide affiliation opportunities for students. Though most area organizations do not offer individual campus-based chapters, we fully support each student who wishes to join a City-wide Chapter and the chapters in their activities. National Association of Latino Fraternal Organizations (NALFO)
NALFO is the umbrella organization for fraternities and sororities with Latino cultural foundations. Though they have Latino foundations, these organizations are not exclusive in their membership based on race/ethnicity and encourage all students interested in joining to find out more information. NALFO’s mission is: “NALFO exists to unite and empower its member organizations through advocacy, and organizational development while fostering positive fraternal relationships and collaborating on issues impacting the Latino Greek community.
At Lindenwood University, Alpha Psi Lambda National, Inc. is our only NALFO partner. Founded at Lindenwood in the spring of 2018, Alpha Psi Lambda National, Inc. is a co-ed organization that places emphasis on Familia, Culture, Academics, Service, and Leadership. National APIDA Panhellenic Association (NAPA)
NAPA is the umbrella organization for fraternities and sororities with Asian, Pacific Islander, and/or Desi American cultural foundations. NAPA”s mission is: “by setting the highest standards of membership, university administrations know that they have a partner in the success of our member organizations’ chapters. When issues arise affecting our community, we are able to mobilize and advocate as one strong, unified voice.”
Though we do not currently have a NAPA organization on our campus, Lindenwood University is always open to partnering with new organizations. If you would like to start one of these organizations, please contact the Associate Director of Student Involvement to begin this process.
National Multicultural Greek Council (NMGC)
NMGC is the umbrella organization for fraternities and sororities with multiracial cultural foundations. NMGC’s mission is: “to promote multiculturalism by advocating for justice and equity, cultivating interfraternal relationships, and empowering its member organizations.”
Though we do not currently have a NMGC organization on our campus, Lindenwood University is always open to partnering with new organizations. If you would like to start one of these organizations, please contact the Associate Director of Student Involvement to begin this process.
